Preparing for a talk and wanted to pose a question to the dataviz fam here — what do you think have been important contributors in bringing data storytelling/viz to more practitioners in the last five years? Hypothesising some possibilities…

1. No-code tools that are built to enable storytellers — such as Flourish and Datawrapper. Browser-based design platforms such as Figma will also help with this in the future.

2. Stronger communities and events — DVS, Makeover Monday, tool specific communities, conferences.

3. Wider range of publishing platforms enabled by greater internet penetration and more visual social platforms. More platforms bring more creators, more creators inspire more people…

4. Increasing visual literacy (graphicacy) and data literacy.

5. A slow and steady shift to stronger communication techniques in data viz. More annotations, stronger titles.

6. MORE DATAAAAAAA
