Monday Check-Ins at Revisual Labs

Every Monday at 4:15, team Revisual Labs gathers for our weekly check-in. Our screens fill up with project updates… and hearts.
I share an agenda ahead of the call, and then we go around with project updates. It’s supposed to be quick and efficient. The goal is to bring everyone onto the same page — but the meeting ends up serving different purposes for different people.
For some, it’s about accountability. If you didn’t have much to show last week, you want to do better this week. One of our developers even uses it to set clear goals for the week ahead, knowing he’ll be back to share how it went.
For others, it’s about clarity and feedback. Someone called it “second-hand learning.” Listening to a designer walk through her process gave a developer ideas he could use in his own work. Another designer said that even when she doesn’t fully understand the details, she learns by seeing how others approach their craft.
And sometimes, it’s where honest feedback sharpens the work. One teammate realised: if her solution takes longer than 10–15 minutes to explain, and the team still struggles to get it, then it’s not ready yet. Another, while prepping a talk, was pushed to focus, cut the clutter, and make her talk sharper and apt for the time she had!
For me, it’s this: not everyone touches every project, but everyone should feel part of it. Even listening in is a form of learning. And I really get a kick when I see the team helping each other!
Oh, and what about the hearts? When someone shares progress and the team loves it, Google Meet hearts fill the screen!
